Works are due to commence on 28 April 2025 for the $10m expansion of Redlynch Central Shopping Centre. Charlie Marino, spokesperson for the Centre, announced the commencement of construction works that will see an additional 1200 square metres attracting new small businesses. Upon completion, the addition will take the form of a two-storey building attached to the Coles supermarket end of the Centre.
The first floor, approximately 700 square metres, will have commanding views of the Valley and the open cane fields. The ground floor will add 500 square metres of retail space to the vibrant community shopping centre.
On 20 June 2025 Redlynch Central Shopping Centre will mark 20 years as the heart of the Redlynch Valley community. Following the first expansion in November 2014, this new phase of construction is due to open before Christmas this year. Upon completion, the Centre will be home to nearly 40 specialty stores alongside Woolworths and Coles supermarkets. With leasing commitments already confirmed for two-thirds of the expansion area, there are still opportunities available to become part of this strong shopping community. News of the new businesses coming to the Centre will be shared closer to the opening of the expansion.
The Architectural firm appointed for the expansion is V Architecture from Brisbane. Costa Vorkas, Principal of V Architecture, has now been involved in all three stages of the Centre since planning began nearly 25 years ago. Acknowledging how gratifying it was to see the expansion commencing he said, “This project has been like watching one of my children grow!”
Campbell Balderson, Director of Keir Queensland, who has been engaged to construct the new expansion, said “It is a great honour for us to be trusted with building the extension to Redlynch Central. To be asked to come back in 2025 after working on Stage 2 nearly 10 years ago is a vote of confidence in our local building company”. It is estimated that over 300 jobs will be created and over 30 local businesses will be called upon to support the construction.
Jason and Michael, the owners of the newly-opened Oliver Brown cafe, have welcomed the commencement of works saying “Since we opened a month ago at Redlynch Central, we have seen our new store welcomed not only by the local Redlynch community but many customers from all over Cairns. We could not have wished for a better start for Oliver Brown and we look forward to the construction work starting so we can see the new mini piazza entrance take shape. We are very excited about the Christmas opening.”
